January 17th (2020, 2021, 2022...every year) The Sad Reality of New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year Ladies!2021 is in the rearview mirror. A confusing year with definite ups and downs. I think we're all excited about the prospects of 2022.This time of year it's common for people to "take stock" and reflect on their happiness and goals. After 5 weeks of social events with lots of food, drink and festivities, many people decide it's time to focus on their health. Most make a resolution to lose weight in the new year.I applaud anyone who wants to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The majority of people who make resolutions do so out of the greatest of intentions. The sad reality is that 80% of New Year's resolutions fail by February. According to USA Today, the most common day that people drop their resolution is January 17th. Why do so many people fail so fast with such good intentions? Here's some of the most common reasons:#1 The number one reason people fail at their resolution is that they don't make a plan. It's easy to say "I want to lose weight" or "I want to become more fit." Without a plan of action, the odds of succeeding are minimal. If weight loss is your goal, you need to have an idea of what your calorie burn is daily. You'll also need to plan a sustainable caloric deficit which accounts for days that you're unable to eat as healthy as you wish. This is the foundation of a sustainable weight loss plan. Just joining a gym or a 6 week challenge on Facebook won't cut it. This I promise you.#2 The second most common reason is that your plan is not sustainable or is a fad diet. I get nauseated when I hear "I'm going to do Keto. I dropped 30 lbs last year. It worked so well!" I usually ask them why they need to go back to this crazy diet if it worked so well for them. Did they gain the weight back? If so, why? Can they live the Keto plan for the rest of their life? What's their plan when they get off of the diet? Some people get offended. Some have no answer. All of them are looking for an alternative to a well thought out plan that lasts more than a few months. (You can substitute Keto with any fad/crash diet: South Beach, Atkins, Juice Cleanse, Hollywood etc.)#3 The third and most underrated reason most people struggle keeping their resolutions is that they try and do too much at one time. Making multiple major lifestyle changes at one time is a recipe for disaster! Sustainable changes come from making small lifestyle changes one after another. Drink 5 Cokes a day? Cut that down to 3 and try walking. If you did well with the small change for 10 days, go to one Coke per day and move even more. NEVER totally eliminate something from your diet that you love. I guarantee you WILL go back to that food or drink! You'd be surprised how many people come to my studio and tell me they're on a no carb diet and want to workout. I'll try to help those people understand that extreme changes are unhealthy and will lead to an inevitable crash. Those who don't listen usually last less than 2 weeks. These people DO have a plan and want to execute it. Unfortunately they fail to realize the power of food and how it plays an integral role in weight loss. With the right plan and coaching they can find success. Unfortunately many don't because their plans aren't realistic and lack a roadmap. Before I lost 50 lbs I too made these three mistakes. Every year for decades I would tell myself this is the year, only to fail and feel miserable about myself. On Jan 1, I would tell myself I am never eating a french fry again and am going to work out 6 days a week...of course this only lasted a week or two before I got burnt out because it was too extreme. It hurts. It's a bad feeling. I get it. It wasn't until I made a sustainable plan of small lifestyle changes did I experience constant success. This is why I started Fit Girl Fitness. This is my passion. I've helped ladies lose that last 5-10 lbs that can be so difficult to shed. I've worked with ladies who have more than 50 lbs to lose. I've cried with clients in my office when they tell me how they've tried everything. Nothing works. They feel their husbands don't look at them the way they used to. They have a wonderful once in a lifetime vacation scheduled. Secretly, they don't want to go. They need to buy another Tankini because the unflattering one from last summer is too small. I get it. It hurts. I have experienced all of those same thoughts and feelings. But I promise you that it doesn't always have to be like this. I have seen so much success with the ladies that have joined FGF so far! Inches lost, pounds lost, confidence and health gained! Come talk to me. No pressure.
