Our Bodies, Hollywood vs Reality

Last weekend between cleaning spilled milk and assuming the roll of FBI detective to find our how gum got in my bed sheets, I was watching Olympic Volleyball. I’m truly amazed by the dedication and training that’s required by athletes to qualify and compete in the Olympics. What I’ve began to notice in every sport is that some athletes don’t have what would be considered a “perfect body”. I mean, these people are machines that push training and nutrition a far as humanly possible. They have strict diet and exercise regimens that they follow while under the supervision of the world’s best trainers and doctors.SO WHAT GIVES?Too many times we see the Hollywood version of the perfect body. Many times these Hollywood bodies are malnourished and dehydrated. (And oh yeah…airbrushing) They are photographed with deceptive lighting to accentuate the positive and hide reality. Most of the time, these perfectly photographed bodies are part of a sales or marketing campaign to get you to spend $!So while watching April Ross dominate the doubles match I noticed during breaks that she had stomach rolls when sitting! While standing, her six pack abs were showcased by her sub 12% body fat percentage. While sitting, her skin obeyed the laws of physics and the rolls were visible. Not that her rolls look like most of ours but still... Here's what I’m saying. It’s unfair to hold ourselves to a standard that’s either not healthy, or not possible. The next time someone snaps a picture of you and you don’t like what you see, please ask yourself the following questions.-Am I healthy?-Am I fit?-Is what I’m seeing the natural human figure? If you answered “yes” to these three questions, please try to change your mindset. Even if we are fit and in shape we can't compare ourselves to Olympians! If you answered “no” to any of them, know that you’re human and can always make changes to get where you want to be.If you’d like help putting together a plan to achieve reasonable and realistic goals I’m always available to help. We’ll sort out fact from fiction.Oh yeah, Abby spilled the milk and Anna “forgot” that she lost her gum in my bed ;-) I was blessed with twins! And always ladies, let's focus on being a Fit, Fierce & Fabulous Fit Girl! -Katie
